Leaning into Strengths During Times of Change
Are you at a turning point in life with a new opportunity? Are you unsure how to navigate the next steps forward?
A big change in your life could change how you approach things, right down to your natural patterns of behavior. Many people tend to become more aware of who we are as things get challenging, but often, many also start to doubt themselves or question their choices.
What if we leaned into our strengths instead of doubts and focused on where you are strongest? Think of something you want to improve about yourself. How would you categorize the thing you chose: Is it a strength or a weakness? When we focus on developing our strengths, we grow faster than when trying to improve our weaknesses. What’s more, strengths have an incredible ability to stay consistent and grow stronger – and when developed, they can become more intense and present during difficult times or when you need them most.
The greatest room for personal improvement isn’t where you’re weakest, but rather where you’re strongest.
How to Find Your Strengths
The first step in growing your strengths is identifying them. If you’re not sure what your strengths are, we use a tool called the Gallup CliftonStrengths. The CliftonStrengths assessment uncovers your unique rank order of 34 CliftonStrengths themes, which are your natural talents, and explains the ways you most naturally think, feel, and behave.
This strengths report, paired with professional coaching aligned to your unique strengths, is the sweet spot for improved performance and well-being. Strengths Now can help jump-start getting from point A to point B and helps our clients with their most pressing goals and challenges. Our team of Gallup-Certified Strengths Coaches are experts in behavior change dedicated to assisting organizations in thriving, teams to collaborate, and individuals to lead happier and healthier lives.
An Intentional Inquiry Into the Positive
Recent research has shown that when groups focus on solving problems, they become depressed. (1) Still, when they formulate plans by working backward from what they want to create, they develop energy, enthusiasm, optimism, and high commitment.
And yet, in general, most people find it very difficult to explain their success but are very good at explaining, analyzing, and documenting their failures. This sounds very familiar to the same doubts we identified earlier. To change your way of thinking, we intentionally lean into your strengths. Focusing on your natural, authentic talents means you can align your work to your true potential, and you will achieve much greater returns for your hard work and practice. You will be building on your strengths, which in turn will become your most powerful assets.
Strengths Now was built on a passion for coaching, learning, and the journey to becoming a better version of ourselves and better leaders. Our work is based on embracing the next steps by developing strengths and focusing on what’s working. Our process involves evoking visions, images, and dreams of what is possible. This is the first step to remove any doubts, built confidence, and change the narrative to include what needs to happen and “what should happen to support our vision” by building a plan.
